Raksha Bandhan is celebrated by the Hindus in India, parts of Nepal and Mauritius, the Sikhs, and some people in Pakistan. It also celebrated across the world by people of Indian origin. This festival primarily celebrates the sanctity of the brother sister relationship.

The core of this festival involves sisters tying a sacred thread called ‘rakhi’ on the brother’s wrist and praying for his goodness.

Initially, sisters used to tie ‘mouli’, ‘dhaga’, ‘dori’, ‘thread’, or ‘kalwa’ in the form of rakhi, but now the trend has changed. Now, various kind of deisgner rakhis is available like floral rakhi, stone studded rakhis, silver-gold coated rakhis, etc…

So let’s discuss in detail about various forms & styles of rakhis.

There are mainly two types of rakhi’s, and they some of their sub categories as well.

The first type is the Traditional Rakhi. These rakhis are still going strong in the market as they are the best for the sacred purpose with their ethnic look. The different types of traditional rakhis available in the market are:

Mauli Rakhi is the first one on the list for traditional rakhis. This is made of a sacred thread called Mauli, which is used in the Hindu dharma and is tied on wrists before performing rituals. It is used since the ancient times.

The second place on the list is occupied by the Resham Rakhi. This rakhi is the oldest rakhi used in the tradition. These rakhis are much decorated and are favourite of people of all ages.

Beads rakhi is on the third place for traditional rakhis. This rakhi has been developed and changed right from the start. The look of this type of rakhi change almost every year, as new designs are implemented, so it is one of the most versatile traditional rakhis.

The second category is the Contemporary Rakhi. These rakhis are generally quite expensive, as they are, made out of costly materials such as gold, silver, platinum, gems, and other precious stones. Underneath are some of the types of contemporary rakhis:

The first type of rakhi in this category is Gold Silver Coated Rakhi. With the passage of time, the style of rakhi threads has changed into chains plated with gold or silver. These are extremely highly decorated rakhis, and are quiet expensive.

Shree Om Rakhi is on the second place of this list. Nowadays, designers are forced to experiment with the styles of rakhi, and thus came up with this type. The rakhi’s thread has a sign of Om or Swastika on it, and has been very popular as of late.

At number three is the Stones Rakhi. These rakhis, or this type of rakhis have precious stones embedded in them such as ruby, diamond, emerald, and others. These rakhis are quite popular among the young generation as they are quite fashionable as well.

At the penultimate place of our list is the Floral Rakhi. This type of rakhis are extremely popular among the brothers and sisters, as they are able to attract everyone by being one of the prettiest rakhis in the market. They have flowers on them that make them even prettier.

At the last position is the Musical Rakhi. These rakhis play a unique type of music. However, these are among the most expensive rakhis and are bought by the richer population of the country.
